Default Sidepipe Muffler suggestion needed

Hey I got a 73 with a 502 Big Block, Hooker Sidepipe Headers and the Tubes. Now one of my tubes is rusted thru, and I am replacing them with new ones from eckler. Question is, what kind of muffler should I put in there, I definiltey do not want the hooker muffler in there, not only are they quite restrictive, but also blow out easily, I searched on here a long time ago and people wrote about different types of mufflers that sound nice and loud, which is what I am after. So if you know any that sound and flow real good, please let me know.

Now a completley different question, I have a steeroids rack and pinion in there, but it kinda sucks, are there any other manufacturers out there that came out with better ones?

Thanks for your help

As far as mufflers go, I've tried most all that are out there. The following is MY opinion:
Hooker reverse flow= very quiet but restrictive
Hooker glass packs= OK sound, not real loud but restrictive.
Hooker Max Flows= no restriction but really LOUD.
STS turbo baffles= good sound not objectionable at speed.
Open pipes= what did you say!!

Go STS baffles. They are aluminized too, so should last a long time.

i used to have hooker super comp side pipes but i found anything quite restrictive for my 570hp 406...

after trying all the 'tryable' i've decided to design myself a custom lightweight muffler...this little cute thing:

that sounded like this:

it was a short streight through stainless steel tube with internal dia of 3 1/2' with a reverse cone at the end finishing in 3'...

it was pretty loud but less then open pipes and very little restrictive...

"swtte thunder" mufflers is your awnser! VERY free flowing, with the windows down i can still hav a conversation, but when i put my foot in it the dumb a$$ in the CRX next to me fills his pants, i can only imagin what it would sound like on a 502!

also i was looking at "spiral turbo" baffels, havent heard them but i hear they are amazing

I'm considering Steeroids and read as many posts as I can find on the topic. Most guys who have it, love it. Is it possible that you just have a problem with that unit? Are there any other Steeroids users out here that are unhappy??? This might be a good topic for it's own post....gp

Since you have the steeroids... You can probably tell me this since you do Auto X... Does it have a tie rod end or a hiem rod end??

Speedway has auger mufflers that are much cheaper than other options. Several people here have posted about them.
