Default Tie rod end links

Just did a lot of much needed suspension up-keep on my 81. New upper and lower ball joints, idler arm, and tie rod end links, the latter of which gave me the most trouble. The drivers side end link went on very smoothly, except for the fact that it had a reverse thread on it. The passenger side, however, was another story. Not only would the original not break loose for the life in me (well, it did after about half a can of penatrating oil, a torch, and lots of words my mother wouldn't like), but the new end link didn't fit properly. It had a regular thread pattern, which didn't match the orignal reverse pattern. Should I thread the new part in in the opposite direction, or did I get a part mishap at the part store?

One end has right hand thread and the other is left. Don't attempt to change the threads, exchange the end for the correctly threaded piece.

What you purchased was a pair of tie rod ends for one tie rod assembly. Each tie rod assembly has a left hand threaded end and a right hand threaded end. By convention, the tie rods ends with the left hand threads are attached to the steering arms. The right hand threaded tie rod ends attach to the relay rod.

In case you are curious here is a paper on Corvette tie rods.
