I am in the final stages of buying a car from Virginia and need to have it shipped to western Canada. Has anyone had experience in international shipping and can recommend a shipping company? I've done a search and sounds like Intercity is the company to go with according to the members here. (I won't use DAS ) Intercity's request form doesn't allow for delivery in Canada so I will have to email them and see if they do international shipping.
we are in the process of getting a vehcle into Canada form the US. get a broker and call the Customs on more info. its is better to drive the car or truck back...cheaper. we are driving two trucks back from Georgia ATlanta. we were advice to drive it thru the Winnipeg port of entry as it is a common area for vehicles to come thru. you need to do some paper work!!!
Its a lot easier than all the info I've read about it. I've had friends from work drive newer cars back and had no problems. The import rules say you have to check with the US side before hand, fill out all the paper work ...etc...most people skip that because the CND side does not require any US customs info. US customs can potentially hold your car for a long time.

Thanx for the info. Crossing the border doesn't seem to be much of a problem if you have your paperwork in order. My brother did it a year ago and it was a breeze for him. But he drove his across. I want to ship mine so am looking for an international shipper. If necessary I will ship it to Seattle and then drive it home from there. Did someone say ROADTRIP
Thanx Jdp6000 I will check out oakwood transport. Does anyone else have a company they can recommend?
From: Ville de la Baie Quebec. A winner is just a loser who tried again.
Make sure that all the paper work is recieved at the US costoms at the place you will cross 3DAYS in advance. They require this to give them time for reserch on the car. Canadian costoms is a breeze,, they don't care if you have papers or not,, if you don't ,, you won't be able to license it anywhere in Canada.
Call Canada customs and also US customs,,, and make sure you are talking with someone who nows what you are doing.

As I said before, bringing a car into Canada is easier than you think. You can go the route of doing all the US paperwork prior to coming back with the car in the hopes that no one has lost the papers or they haven't got around to it or they just feel like holding your car. You do not need any US documents other than the bill of sale and the title/ownership for that car as experienced by a few people I work with. It surprised me too but why would they lie .You would have so many days to get the car certified to CND standards...KM speedometer...etc by a customs designated shop in your area. One was Canadian Tire believe it or not. If you phone directly to the border crossing your crossing at and get an agent that knows how people do it, they will tell you. I found that more help than anything else.

If you want to drive it across. Send a copy of the bill and ownership to the customs crossing office where you will enter 72 hours prior. Your paper work will be ready when you get there. Pay $100 air tax, I think an admin fee plus GST and you are in. Pay PST at your local ministry.
Oakwood brought my car from California to Mississauga's customs depo for $1400. I drove over paid and picked it up.
Good advice from all. I am aware that I need a Title and Bill of sale at the crossing I am using. Also the 72 hrs. notice. Driving it across is probably the best. The inspection by Canadian Tire is the Federal one and I don't think I need it because the car is over 15 yrs. old. (will have to check on that one) I also need a Provincial inspection that is VERY detailed. EVERYTHING on the car must be working or it won't pass. Also if any fluid leaks they have to be fixed also (environmental concerns). Not sure how long I have to make sure everything is fixed before they axe my application. Anyone know? Some of the things that need fixing (heater motor, fiber optics, dashlights etc.) may take me a little time. Hope they allow for lots of time.
