Default Ever use the interior dye spray

Anyone ever try the interior dye spray from Mid America? It sounds like an easy fix for older seat backs but does it really make them look like new?

Works good, better than I thought it would. Do light applications at a time.

I used it on the pillars, headliner, and center consol…Works great as long as you apply it properly

I painted my faded black shifter boot red. Gave it four light coats, and it turned out much better than I had expected.Don't be disappointed after the first couple coats.

Anybody respray their steering column? mine is all chipped up from the keys and I want to refinish it. Is the Interior dye the right stuff to use on this or is there something else that works on metal? The interior dye spray does not say anything about being good to use on metal, it just says it good for door panels, seats, plastic trim, and carpet.

I forgot about the steering column…I did that too with the spray can dye

It turns out much better than you expect…I started with one spot and ended up doing most of the interior

Prep and cleaning is the key. SEM is an excellent product available at many quality auto parts and auto paint supply stores. Our upholster has been using it for years.

Used the Mid America stuff on everything except carpet, looks like new again. I'm pretty sure SEM supplies Mid America with their Product.

Agree. Used it on a resto over 10 years ago and it still looks the same. The correct prep is the key with several light thin coats.

I've used SEM in both my cars. It's good stuff. Ditto for prep and cleaning. No clean-ee, no stick-ee.

FWIW: Stock leather seats have a clear protectorant on them. They have to be squeaky clean.

I bought the liquid cans of it, and used an airbrush to lightly overspray the parts that needed a touchup. I never had much luck with spray cans and cover-ability!!!!

I just did mine last month. Turned out good. Mine was pitted and had the key marks on it so I sanded down really good before spraying the dye. I am going to find a small peice of black rubber and glue it where the keys rub so that they don't scratch it again.

That's what I used to go from camel to black. Unfortunately I was not as careful as I should have been in putting the pieces back in and they are scratched in places. Need to figure out a way to do touch up.

I am considering spraying into a cup and using a paintbrush or a foam paint "brush" to dab on the scratches (not stroke it on). Suggestions?

Check the archives. I did this last winter and photo-documented the whole process. BTW...my seats are cloth.
