Default started working on the car again

Well after taking a brake from the car for the past year I finally started working on her again. So far I pulled the trans cross member and the trans out. I steam cleaned all the parts and even painted the cross member and drive shaft high temp flat black. I was going to just steam clean the trans and replace the seals and put it back in but after steam cleaning it I decided that I am going to shoot some silver and a clear coat on it to give it a nice clean look. The camera isn’t working so I am going to ask my brother if he can bring his by so I can take some pictures so I can post them up here. after giving up for a year and being totally frustrated with this car I forgot how much fun it can be to work on her. I’ll try and get some pictures up tonight.

i know i promised pictures but my brother didnt come through and i got stuck working on the car by myself again. anyways i pulled the transmission, crossmember and the driveshaft that goes from the trans to the dif. i cleaned everything that i took out and i even painted the crossmember and driveshaft a high temp flat black and they came out looking awsome. i was going to paint the transmission with hightemp aluminum paint but it came out looking awsome once i was done so i left it bare. anyways i pulled the transmission out today and after a few hours of cleaning and putting a new pan gasket on i got it back in the car without any help at all. i thought it was going to be a lot harder than that and i thought for sure that something was going to happen and the transmission wouldnt make it back in the car but everything went without a hitch.

Default Me too

It must be something in the air, I too started working on the Corvette after nearly 2 years of just letting it sit there (both of 'em) . didnt get too much accomplished except for putting the bad r/r spindle back on so I can push the car around to a better position so I can start tranferring parts from the '80 to the '82, made lots of mental notes on what needs what,,,a game plan ? Amazingly it felt good working on it and I'll probably kick myself in the a$$ for not working on it sooner. Miss driving it a bunch. Peace, Moosie

Well, congratulations to you and your wife, kids are neat creatures, got two myself, one of each style, a 19 year old son college student vagabond and a 17 year old freshly graduated from High School daughter who starts college at the end of August. They both have ambitions,,,,,,,,,of driving MY Corvette, but have very little knowledge of how things work mechanically. Good luck to you both. Peace,,,Moosie

I read this thread to get some ambition myself ... too many projects lately.
Soon, the roof will be on, boat running in the water, and sparkly inground pool.
At that point (hope July) I will turn my attention to the 'vette.

My two boys already know that the 'vette is mine until I die.
They have their eyes on the other cars lying around, like my
81 Mustang 5.0/5sp with Ttops and rodent nests. I told them that
the Mustang may only be good for a Cobra kit car ... save your money.

My vette still looks like it did in this pic, named "as_she_sits_5_12_06"
Well, maybe a little more sanded but basically the same.
Think I should just drive it like this ?

I say use a black primer, and drive it like that. Those polished wheels will really pop on a flat balck car.

I'd drive it like it ts

I do.... That's fresh coat of primer over a year ago and I still drive it (hard) everyday!

since I took that pic the fuel tank, Engine, and clutch have been replaced, The rear wheel bearings and almost the complete brake system has been replaced and the sidepipes are on.... but she's still primer yellow
