Default Paint Color Question/Opinion

I bought my wife her dream car...a corvette "the one with the humps" (1980). It has an OK paint job in pearl white. Some spidering and a couple of blisters. She says her dream car was hot pink. I know I know....hot ****ing pink!!! I got her to at least agree on a deep candy type pink. What does the Vette community think about this color on a beautiful clasic? I would hate to disrespect the car or kill the value.

I was at a car show recently and a guy had a maxed out custom vette he said on his signs belongs to his wife and the work on it by him is dedicated to her.

I thought that was cool! I could buy my wife a c-3 and give her a new exhaust system for her birthday, new dizzy for Mother's Day, etc.. The perfect dedicated husband!!

Ok, I almost always say that a car owner can paint and modify his/her car any way they choose- so long as it makes them happy. But I'll buck the tide on "hot f***** pink" and strongly recommend something with a little more red- or any other vette or near vette color. I'm guessing the wife is not selling Mary Kay cosmetics.

Hate to not agree with the "do what makes you happy" folks, but disrespecting the car and killing the value is exactly what you would do.

The way I see this is, paint is like tires, it can be changed/replaced at any time. As far as killing the value, that only matters if you plan on selling the car. If you're going to the trouble of painting it pink, I would think that your planning on keeping it for a good long time.

That said, my problem would be, I wouldn't be caught dead in a pink corvette, so my wife would always be driving the car by herself, or at least without me.

By chance is your wifes name Barbie?

What we think makes no difference. It's not our car. It's her car and she wants it pink.

Kill the value? Not all of it, but a heckuva good chunk of it.

This car is painted with house of Kolor Kandy paint. The base coat is metallic silver, so the first couple of passes with the kandy turned it metallic pink...

It's her car, I would let her pick the color IMO.

Check into pearlescent pink, like what goes on the Mary Kay Cadillacs. One of my Mom's friends won that Cadillac, i've seen it up close many times, that paint job is amazing on those, even for pink.

How long have you been married?

Correct response is " Yes dear, what shade of pink do you want! "

Default Imho

I'm all about making wifey happy 'n all . . .but I think i'd do some serious negociating on this one; like perhaps make her park a block or two down and walk in on foot. That way, it's not in your driveway.

. . . or you could always drive it off a cliff and say, "sorry honey, it was good while it lasted."

In all honesty, sometimes ideas sound good until actually done- i really think this is one of those times.

There's a crazy lady a mile from my house. She bought a Grand Prix about 5 years ago and painted it hott pink and had white barbie graphics put on the side of it. Let me tell ya, she don't look like Barbie! Anyway, all I'm saying is be prepaired for a lot of questions. . . everyone and their brother is going to ask "what were you thinking?" And those that aren't asking, will be mumbling under their breath.

I can only be honest because you asked for everyones opinion. My opinion, tell wifey to pick another color- one that you can both be happy with. If she cannot respect that- get a new wifey

Thanks for all the input. This is a tough one. The picture from BRADYWINE is a hot color. I could live with that. The wife may want a shade lighter though. Anyway, thanks again.
