Default header questions???

my mechanic told me that my headers are leaking. took a look at my headers and they are pretty rusty. does he have to take them out to re-gasket them and if so would painting them with some hi temp paint be worth it or should i just bite the bullet and get new ones? $$$ he told me it would be about $250 to re-gasket. also how do i know what headers to buy with all the different ports? i nkow my motor is the correct casting # just not sure about the heads??? chime in with your thoughts tia

They do not have to be taken out for new gaskets. It should be a 1/2 hour job at the most. Sounds like your getting screwed.

Even if he is replacing the collector gaskets too, that price is high.

dont bother painting. I glass beaded primed and painted with VHT header paint. supposed to be the best. started rusting 3 months later so now they are going to JET HOT to get coated.

VHT works well when baked as directed. 650* for 1 hr within 8 hours of painting. Ive used it on my truck and after 6 months it still looks the same.

I was quoted $300 for my big block headers, I had some factory manifolds done for $200. they coat them inside and out guarante the coating for 3 years and rust thru for life. this is the best option for me because I had to dent mine to clear the frame and stering box.

$250 to change gaskets WTF! I am in the wrong business, would take about an hour if I take 10 minute beer breaks every ten minutes.

Earl's graphites seal great btw, did not like the collector version though-went with summit copper for those
