Replacing / Fixing Blower Motor Switch - 1981 Corvette
Are there any tips or tricks to replacing the 4 speed blower switch (Air Conditioned) on a 1981 Corvette? How involved is it? I removed the console side carpet and can see the connector to the switch. The switch works on low and high only. If I wiggle the switch back and forth several times, speed 2 and 3 work, but if I switch to high and back to 3, 3 dies. I tried spraying contact cleaner from the top side, but no help. Do I need a new switch or can this one be fixed? I understand this is a common problem on C3s.
Pulling the console is the hard part, after that its only 2 screws that hold it in
thanks for the reply. Can it be changed from underneath without pulling the console (from side with carpet insert removed) or is there an access problem?
Do you think spraying contact/tuner cleaner into the switch from below would help since it does work sometimes after moving the switch back and forth several times?
Taking it off with the console in place will be a problem due to access. That panel is 26 yrs old and you don't want to stress it anymore than necessary. The 2 screws are in the middle of the panel between the defog switch (if equiped) and the AC controls. So getting to them will be tough. Its possible that once you have it out you can fix it tho, never can tell
