Default composite leaf spring

I have an 82 Corvette I recently purchased. It only has 55K miles and everything but the cruise and horn work. I was able to get under it the other day and noticed it had a steel leaf spring in the rear. From my reading and research I was under the impression that it was supposed to have a fiberglass/composite spring in the rear. Any ideas/reasons why a low milage 82 would have a steel spring??? Optional spring, factory ran out of glass springs, replacement/recall??? Thanks.

Fiberglass was standard. The steel springs came with the optional FE7 suspension package. You should also find a rear sway bar, stiffer front springs, and a bigger diameter front sway bar.

Default Sounds Good

OK, that does sound good. It at least puts my mind at ease. I just don't want any mysteries coming about.
Would this be the gymkanna package. It does have a rear sway bar and aluminum wheels? Anything really special about this option? The car is very well equipped as far as options go.
Thanks for all you guys being here. I will try to post a pic and give some details in the near future.

Yep. The FE7 option is the gymkhana package.

Also optional. Ralley wheels were standard.

Go here https://store.corvettemuseum.com/ser...buildsheet.asp and see if you can get a copy of the build sheet for your '82. The NCM will need your VIN. The build sheet will show a list of all the options installed on the car at Bowling Green.

Better yet, cruise the '82 down to Bowling Green, tour the museum and the plant, and check on your build sheet while you're there.
