My 75 has leaked during every hard rain since I've gotten it, even when I keep it covered. I don't have a garage to put it in so I need to try and fix the leaking. The weatherstripping still feels soft and is uncracked. Should I replace it anyway. Has anyone else had leaking problems.

 

Are you sure its the tops?!?!?!?!?! Between your center "T" stainless piece and the windshield is the windshield molding, this is seperate from the "T" piece. Most leaks occur in this gap, and they follow the windshield frame to either the rearview mirror or down the sides and will actually drip from the bottom of the side dash pieces. I removed all the molding on my 69 and completely filled that top channel with GOOP, then reinstalled the "T" and the windshield top molding. I believe you can just remove the top molding and fill that front area in and you would be surprised at the difference, I did that to my POS 75. Or I just forced it in between the 2 pieces, I don't remember, but it stopped the rearview mirror drip I had.....................B

 

You might try loosening the mounting hardware and trying to line everything up to see if you can close the gaps.

That's demoralizing, but I agree with that thread. Wouldn't trade my corvette for...well...most other cars.

 

If it leaks it's GM.. .. My '99 Z28 T-tops don't leak..... maybe a drop here and there but that's it... I'm beginning to wonder........

 

It's a 30+ year old car. Are you sure the weatherstrip isn't just shot?

 

Yeah. I checked. I was really hoping that would be it. My carpet's soaked every other week.

 

3 out of 4 of my corvettes have had leaks. my 71 was like a swimming pool when it would rain. my 75 is almost as bad but that is getting fixed in the very very near future and my 2000frc leaked too. my z06 is the only one that has not leaked yet. i am keeping my fingers crossed. i replaced all the weather stripping on the 75 and it still leaked. i will have to check the trim like what was mentioned earlier in the thread while i am replacing the weather stripping this time. good info here.

 

My 77 has always been a bit drippy, but the weatherstrip has been a wreck for the entire time I've been involved with the car.

Get a bright flashlight, and shine it around the t-top weatherstrip from the inside. Look from the outside, and if you see light leakage, you have a water leak.

Are you sure the cowl drains aren't clogged? If they are it can force the water inside to the carpet.

You can easily blow these out with an air compressor.

 

Honestly, I don't know what or where the cowl drains are? Could you direct me.

 

Sorry I just returned... I will try to get a pic in the next few days to help you. If not I will pull my cover off of Tux and get you one. ( My cowl area sport an aftermarket cover to hide the hideous stuff GM left open showing the wiper arms and tons of GM sealant.

Leak or no leak, I hope you don't have a name for your car like this guy!!! I call mine the 69 or 75, or the "POS", depending on my mood.

 

I thought my T-Tops were the source of my leak so I painfully replaced the weatherstrip on both. Looks like crap and did not solve the problem. The problem turned out to be right in front of me: a gap between the windshield trim and the "I" trim had sealant that had hardened and/or went missing. I put black marine sealer in there and no more leak. Wish I hadn't messed with those seals, now I will have to redo them someday. What a cluster...............

 

Why do you have to drive the Vette in the rain ?

 

What happened? T-top weatherstrip is pretty easy to replace.

 

I bought my vette as a driver. it's my one and only car. i can't afford to buy another one and let the vette sit. if i could i would.
