this is how high i get mine, i've done this at least 6 times. the job goes much smoother w/another set of hands but have done it by myself 3 or 4 times. i also use masking tape on parts under there where it's tight to avoid scratching the headers, also make sure u use antisieze between the header and the sidepipe for separation in the future

I think I have eaten food off less sanitary and clean surfaces than the underside of your vette. Incredible.

I just installed the Hedders and side pipes on my 79 this weekend. I had the car on Heavy Duty Jack Stands and it was up a little over 2 feet. The hardest part was getting the old exhaust off. I did all the work by myself. It will be easier if you take the wheels off ( helps when slipping on the side pipes) Buy some good heavy duty gaskets and the allen head hedder bolts. ( Pep Boys) I found out the hard way, the Hooker ones are crap!!! Mine blew out as soon as i started the car had to re do everything again. I would have saved a couple of hours if I bought the right stuff from Pep Boys. Car runs alot cooler. Was in a 4th of July Parade same parade I have been in for the past 6 years and this is the 1st time I did not have to run the heater to stop from overheating.

I put the Sweet Thunder 2.5 on and they are so load a WOT that I was tossed out of an autocross. I might buy the 2.25 or find a way to stick a baffel on.

If you use studs on the heads at the ends it makes it much easier to mount the headers.
After the rest of the bolts are installed take the studs out then install the bolts.

Here's the interior of the 2 1/2" Sweetthunder inserts from the end.

I like the sound alot myself.

Tim,

I thought you said you had a friend that had a lift and that was going to help with the install

I offered to come up to help.

I really wish you had made a video though.

Sorry bud.

Oh its alright Rick, done and done , bud's shop was full and since i was swappin heads i figured it was a good time. If i did make a video, It would take massive quanities of alcohol to convince me to show it

I finally found a use for the old seat cusions from the 80 seats i have in the car, if you put one on top of a HYd jack see, then with your toes pump up the jack till the header tubes are resting on the seat cusion seee, then using your foot, postion the jack till you get the header to line up see, then while holding the header with you left hand see, take the bolt from between you teeth and start the first bolt........

Ohhh the things I do for that green machine of mine

I'm craking up just reading this, a video would've been a hit at the woodstock thing. I'm sure there will be plenty of alcohol for convincing purposes only mind you.

oh it gets better

of course its right at this time that the G/F comes out and asks what are you doing, can you take the trash out/ and with a murderous gleem in my eyes I tell her to ........ O sh*t I dropped the bolt $%* dam**&, ****** effer, the the header slips from my grasp the bolts go flying, the jack slides and i HEAR THE SOUND OF 500 BUCKS OF HEADER SMASH INTO THE DRIVEWAY!!!!!!!
Now this wouldnt be so bad, but its the drivers side, so now i have to get back under the car wiggle the effing thing back up past the steering box and while im doing this for the second freekin time that day the effin g/f walks up and asks what are you doing?
what the eff does it look like Im doing!!!!!!!!!! she is obvioulsy oblivious to the intricacies of single hand header install, and I commence to tell her just exactly what I think when she says why are you mad at me I didnt drop it, im going to get my nails done.......

Ohhh the things I do for that green machine of mine
