Brake light came on the other day along with a lower pedal on the 77 daily driver. Opened the cannister & lost most of the brake fluid in the rear chamber. Refilled, bled both rears along with master cylinder and all is fine now? Where did the fluid go? I checked lines, connections, rear cylinders, all were dry without any noticable leaks. Any ideas welcome.
hey i have the same problem only still no brakes , i was told that the fluid could have gone into the power brake booster , but i dont have power brakes , do you , and if you do that might be the new hoding tank for some of your fluid , just a guess ????

If you checked all brake lines and calipers and have found no leaks, and you have power brakes, most chances are your master is leaking from inside the booster and all the fluid is holding in there. It happens all the time to our work vehicles. You may want to check it, brake fluid can damage the booster and your brakes may lock up. It has happened several times to our company vans..

Ouch lock up is Bad ! How do you check the inside of the booster?

I just had the same issue. After checking everything I couldn't find any leaks and after refilling the rear chamber it stayed full. Unfortunately the brakes were still mushy. As I'm not much of a mechanic opted to take it to a local tire and brake shop and have them inspect it, then drain/fill/bleed the brakes. The didn't find any problems, and it took them 4 attempts to get the brakes bled and working properly again.
I don't know if this helps or not, but it seems when my car sits for long periods, a year or more, the brake fluid goes low when I start driving it again. If I drive it regularly I don't have issues. Not sure why.

Hate to say it but you gotta pull the master, you may be able to unbolt it and pull it away from the booster without removing the brake lines. check the rear of the master where the pushrod goes into, you'll be able to tell if it is leaking from there.

Yea that soumds reasonable. I think I may be able to do that without removing the lines also. I guess if move it out even a 1/4 of an inch I should see if its wet or dry back there.
I found the leak! I did the pad replacements and found one wet pad with the leak from the seal on rear drivers side caliper. I just ordered a seal fix kit. I hope that does the trick. Calipers are about 7 years old with stainless inserts. All others checked out okay. Funny thing is that it was such a slow leak that I didn't have to replace fluid since that last time and none was evident on visual.
