Default wiring pics

well this is my attempt to post a pic on here and ask a question.

my question really is an extension to my other post: http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show....php?t=1742995

1. ok, below is the connector that goes to the wiper motor. I try to ring out a ground, but it won't happen. I fixed/cleaned the two spots 'down wire' from it by the blower motor and the starter. they are grounded good.
also, which wire is supposed to be what here?
Clockwise from upper left, 1 - 2 - 3. I have 12v on the red one in 2.

2. what is this wire?

3. what is this wire?

Thanks guys. if you've enjoyed these pictures, I can show you some real 'bubba' pics...hehe

Although it is a different connector than my '71, this first should be the wire from the wiper switch on the upper console. There should also be a red hot that runs to the pump motor itself. The ground for the motor comes from the firewall, but I also threw a ground strap on mine.

The second pic goes to a safety switch that, I see behind your had, is not in the car. Basically this switch will not allow the wiper motor to operate unless the pneumatic wiper door is opened.

The last pair of wires look to be the power wires the run the washer pump when the wiper switch is depressed.

Goto photobucket and click on edit and then resize, choos 800x600 or the next smaller one, and yuor pics will fit perfectly in the forum boxes, w/o overrun.

Thanks, I'll try that.

I would like to add a ground in the connecter though, so which one is it, the one opposite the red or the bottom one?
As for the limit switch, yes i'm missing that and the bracket, plunger etc. Would it be ok to jump those wires so that at any time i could turn on the wipers? (yes i would have to open the door manually first i know...).

also, the last pic, i actually have the two wires connected to the washer pump already so those must be somehting else.

thanks

Yes....you can jumper the switch connector for troubleshooting purposes, but I would get the rest of the assembly.

Looks like all of it is wiper-related to me. My advice is to purchase the '68 assembly instruction manual. My '68 AIM has a wiring diagram in it identifying the wiper wiring by location and stock wire color/size.

Second picture looks like the wiring for the switch. Plunger on wiper door hits this switch after the wiper door is open and turns on the wipers. If your switch is missing (wires look like they've been cut and taped) you're going to need one.

#1 connects to a '68 only wipermotor.

#2 is the limit switch for the wiper door, since it is disconnected you should connect the wires to the wiper door switch to finish the connection to the wipermotor.

#3 is the wiring connection to the backup switch on the tranny for manual transmission.

A friendly suggestion on a slight tangent - you might want to put that ring in a safe place while you're working on electrical stuff. It would be very easy to get an unpleasant tingly surprise while wearing a good conductor.

Good Idea Batman.

Does anyone know where to buy the plunger, and the wire harness for the switch? I believe I need some sort of bracket too... I suppose i could fabricate something for those though. So all I really need is the switch.

I agree that I should get the assembly manual.

Thanks guys. When i can i'll post a new thread with pics of my car...

Corvette salvage or eBay. I can't recall seeing these offered by the aftermarket providers.

...and the wire harness for the switch?...
If memory serves, the harness is part of the switch. AIM will tell you the short tail mounts to the inside.

Yep.

You can't buy just a piece of a harness, you should just go ahead and get the entire under hood harness and fix everything, most likely it's deteriorated beyond the safe service life anyway. Thankfully Vettes are fiberglass, shorts to the body are impossible, shorts to a nearby ground wire or bird cage obviously aren't. If a fire does start fiberglass burns hot and fast, add a little undercarriage oil and grease to the mix and it will be a total loss in a heartbeat.
