I had a small antifreeze leak for a while. It is now repaired. The trouble is it`s all over the motor, which has quite a bit of chrome on it. Its cooked on. Any suggestions to clean it up would be appreciated.
I use a combo of Gunk Engine Brite and Simple Green Degreaser.
1) Remove air cleaner and double cover with plastic bag.
2) Double cover with plastic bag the distributor.
3) Spray Simple Green liberally (follow instructions AND make sure you don't get any on the car's paint...it will remove the wax and could damage the paint). Brush stubborn areas with a soft brush.
4) Rinse well and then spray with Gunk (also follow instructions). Also brush stubborn areas...
5) Rinse well
6) Remove all the plastic, start engine and let dry.
I've been doing that for years, and it hasn't hurt the chrome or the engine. Also, when I have had really stubborn gasoline or antifreeze stains on the intake, I have used carb cleaner.
I bought a portable steam cleaner off the internet earlier this week. It hasn't been delivered yet, but I'm hoping to clean my engine with it when it gets here. It's a steammax sf 275 from Business solutions Inc. for $130 bucks. http://www.steamvaporclean.com/steam...am_cleaner.htm
Thank! I really appreciate your thoughts. I drive it every day (except when it snows or ice) and my therapy.....cleaning the engine every week...or at least, wiping it down....
