so i wanted to finally get my a.c. to work today in my car. after sealing everything, i decided to charge the system. took it to my buddy's since he has the equipment. we soon found out that my compressor is locked up. what?!? i just replaced it a year ago, but my a.c. wasn't sealed so i never used it. i know i disconnected it at one time, but i made sure not to use the compressor. anyway i replaced it a little over a year ago, and it supposedly has a 1 year warranty. i finally thought i could have a.c. here in florida for a little bit this summer. after having my freakin' heater core leak again i just bypassed it altogether. i should just rip all this crap out and put some humongous engine in it...
anyway so atleast i have nice cold vent air!! i'm trying to be optomistic.
i feel like i accomplished nothing though...

Compressors won't last if they are not run. You should always charge a compressor with refrigerant and oil as soon as you possibly can to avoid problems.
Also, always replace the dryer/accumulator when replacing the compressor. These are a one-time use products. They absorb the moisture initially, then are basically a filter after that for the system. Once the system is open to the atmosphere, the dryer is useless.
If you replace everything at the same time and are careful on installing the o-rings and fittings, the A/C system is not that big of a deal. You should get many years of trouble-free service out of it. Chasing a problem in the system is a major pain, though.
