Does anyone actually believe the BS by sellers these days? All the old C3s suddenly have low original miles under the hump, yeah right. I remember 20 years ago they were not so many low mile cars around. Funny how as the values went up the miles went down.
Then there is all the matching number drive trains, uh-huh. Odo spins and restamps but people just eat it up. I just saw some POS, that probably had 250k on it, and the owner claimed it was 50k actual and some fool bought it. There was no paint left on the engine. Where was the car, under salt water for 5 years? What a joke!
And what's with the Corvette dealers? They take what a private car might sell for and add 50% and fools just step up and fork over the cash! Meanwhile in the back of the shop I'm sure the restampers are working OT!

Well, for what it's worth, when I was looking/researching around for my Vette, I knew that I wanted (PLAN A) a 68-72 ChromeBumper and my backup plan (PLAN B) was a 1979L82 to 1982. Plan C was going to be a nice C4 or cheaper C5. After realizing that there really aren't many old C3 Vettes in Oregon, let alone a chrome bumper car, my search was nice and long. AND... If there was a 68-72 they all were outlandish in price from $25k to $45k...So, obviously I ended up with the "Shark 1980-82" era C3. I am very happy I did.
My 80 is so easy to mess around with, has the wicked-cool shark shape. I get so many compliments on it too! I am really happy I ended up with PLAN B

I bought my 71 LS-5 vert in 1980...it had 65k on it then and the original motor was long gone...I parked it in 1984 w/101K on it. It hasn't been driven in 23 years- and I keep seeing soooo many for sale w/ LESS miles AND the original engine.
HOWEVER- I don't think a C5 is the answer...keep looking for a nicely restored car and don't get caught up in the "matching numbers" thing or original miles. Most of the odometers broke before the 100k mark anyway.

Boo ...
... a C5 guy here saying that one from every generation is the answer! And our next one is going to be a C3 ...
Wish I was in the mid-west or Florida or Texas. Probably could look at 15 68-72s a day. Of course here in the Northwest we seem to have the highest prices for cars and bikes in the country. A friend moved here from Florida and was looking at bikes saying he could not believe the prices.
I actually had two Vette deals going. Fist bought a '68 vert and told them I wanted to wire them the money the next day. But no the salesman screws around getting the paperwork done plus three weeks shipping on top of his wasted week so I got impatient and said please find someone else.
Then I got another deal going, we were $900 apart in the price, and I decide to give them what they want but first I have a memeber here go check the car out. Thing had been for sale for like three weeks but he goes over there and reports back--Gone!
yes, there are lots of chrome bumper cars here in the mid west....but they aint cheap here either. usually 15 is getting hard to find. They are reaching the 20 mark( nad many over that) and still selling.
