I believe that is the amp for the stock factory radio that was attached behind the passenger side dash; that's where it was in my '72.

Mine too. Factory radio won't work without it.

Nerds call things like radiators and heat sinks convectors, because they convect the heat away, instead of radiate it.

That's a convector. Stereo to boot since it has a capacitor for each channel.

If I take-out my single transistor convector, and put in a double convector....will that will make my orignal mono radio into stereo radio?

No. The stereo radios have a second channel output to the two-transistor convector assembly. The stereo radios are identified by having a balance control (behind the volume control), and a red light in the upper left quadrant of the dial which illuminated if a stereo signal is received.
