Just bought this hood off fleabay. Paid 475 plus shipping. Exactly what I wanted, as far as looks go, just wondering if I overpaid or not. It's supposed to be a L88 hood from a Motion Corvette. Also, does anyone see anything wrong with this piece that I may have overlooked? Thanks!
I don't know if it is a genuine Motion hood or not, but it is the long style which will fit your '73, and the air box is not the factory style. It does look to be press-molded instead of hand-laid, which normally indicates a GM hood, but GM never made a L-88 hood in the long style.
Looks like a Press Mold and a decent deal to me. I have ben looking for about two weeks for a Press Mold hood LT1 hood and the best I could get was $900 - also quoted $1,100 and $1,300 - and a 3-6 month wait time. According to the folks I have spoken with their are only 2 people left making press mold hoods and they do it when they get to it - could be 3 months or it could be 6 months.
I want my car now so I bought an Ecklers hand laid ($575) and will be looking for something at Carslisle.
That is NOT a Motion hood. This guy sells a ton of BB stuff and knows the difference (he's not as naieve as his ad sounded). Be very careful if you deal with this seller as he seems less than honest.
The good news, you did NOT pay a Motion price. If you had bit on the "buy it now" price, that probably would have been too much, but you are in the realm of what these hoods sell for.
There was also one car that I know of where Joel took an L88 hood and put the '67 BB scoop on it but I do not know if a mold was ever made or that was a one off (You could tell it was the original due to all the resin runs on the inside of the hood, he was such a drag racer)
BTW, both these hoods are gone now and the ones I still have I'm planning on using. /:\

Well since you car is a '73 the stock hood is a SB and BB hood.... What you purchased is an aftermarket L88 hood...
If I am correct, the motion cars were produced from 68 - 73. I believe the motion hood for 68-72 was pretty much an LT-1 hood with a hood scoop on it! In 73, I believe they had a tilt front end.. However I could be wrong!

Motion offered the hood both short and long. The Mako he sold had a tilt front end. Not sure if there ever was a tilt with the Motion scoop, but Joel would give you whatever you could afford, so almost anything is possible. /:\

Thanks for clearing that up... The tilt front end motion I saw didn't have the motion style hood I believe it had vents on it similar to the vents on a hood of nova SS....
I really like the L88 look, and I'm thinking of adding a L88 scoop to a spare hood of mine...but $475 seems like a great deal for what you got.
I wouldn't!! When I bought my Yellow 73 the guy before me added the L88 scoop on it and it not only looks fake but it makes the hood so much heavier and in time it will sag in the middle!!
I say sell the hood and keep the search out for an L88 hood!
I have been looking for a short L88 for a while on ebay, but no one ships to Canada, or the shipping is the same as the cost of the hood.
Not to hyjack this thread, but I found a guy up here who will copy any hood I find into Carbon Fiber for $1200CDN for the first one and $600 for the second, third, etc.
Are there many people interested in a carbon fiber short L88 hood out there as the more I order the cheaper each becomes?
Anyways I think once you clean up this hood you bought, you will love it.

thanks for the input everyone! you have all been a GREAT help! I'm glad that it seems I was finally able to get a good deal on something for once, and on an important part of my project.
lol actually since I purchased it from a member of this forum last year , there are pictures of it on here. I bought it from shreddermiller last year sometime around july 17th or so, i think. What has changed since I bought it is a new 383 stroker crate engine, because the 350 that was in it took a dump on me . I'm changing it from red to blue and the interior from saddle to black. I have already purchased the engine and all the necessary parts for it, DeWitt's aluminium radiator with dual electric fans, chrome side exhaust, L88 hood, new door panels, accel distributor and ignition, and new edelbrock 800 cfm carb. I still need bucket racing seats, carpet, interior dye, a front and rear bushing kit, a full weatherstripping kit, parking brake setup (broke the old one), and some Torq Thrust II wheels with 17X9.5 in the front and 17X11 in the rear with new tires, as well as some small odds and ends. Waiting on my mechanic buddy to put all the parts in and paint the car for me so it'll be done by the time I get back in November. I'll get some more pics up here so you dont have to dig through the archives to see it.
