'76 Audio
Today's inquiry: Sound system. The '76 Agent Orange needs some jams. The currently-installed system is an ill-fitting Jensen and the front speakers are silent so I'm thinking a non-modification am/fm/cd would be desirable. I see that Eckler's has some am/fm/cassette non-mods:

I tossed out the cassettes along with the 8-track tapes eons ago. Does anyone know of an am/fm/cd non-mod unit? Speaker suggestions are welcome.

Thanks again to all Forum Dudes!

The 'Corvette' labeled stuff is aparently junk, but never had the pleasure of hearing it myself so I shouldn't say too much.
You can replace the center instrument panel with one for a DIN radio ( it has a big square cutout, no **** holes ) and then use any normal radio. ( kinda a big job though )
I do sell all that stuff, if your interested.
Just look at the VetteSound catagory in the store.
Truth is I really like to listen to the sound of the L-82 as I drive but the previous owner slapped some Jensen radio in there and it doesn't fit at all, so it's gotta go. Something has to fill the void and a simple radio/cd will do fine.
I'm not looking to rattle the street posts- just something to fill the gaping hole left in the console once I rip the exiting crap outta there. The rumble of the L-82 keeps me satisfied.

No problem. The beauty is there are several levels that start with a system consisting of just the head unit, amp, speakers and kit. The problem with installing a modern head unit is they do not have powerful internal amps and you just can't get great sound from head unit driven speakers.
I appreciate the appeal of listening to the car as that's what I do a lot in my Vette with side pipes. I'd rather have the option of turning it on when I want it instead of not having the choice.
If you have any questions, even about individual component choices feel free to ask.

My primary interest is maintaining the existing integrity of the console- no modifications. You're correct about internal amps- pretty wimpy. The available room in this '76 is alarmingly scarse- just enough for the T-top sack and the fold-out chairs/tables (from Mid-America- perfect for those Vette gatherin's)- might not be enough for X-tra amperage. No biggie- let the other models carry the loud jams. Specifically, I'm looking for a am/fm/cd to fill the void- no more/no less.
