Default Dynamat/Fatmat question

I bought the Fatmat and am in the process of installing it. My question is, do you use it on the front floor and toe kick too? If so, what stops it from melting (and smelling like hot tar) when the floor gets hot from the exhaust pipes?

The solution is to not use the cheap, asphalt-based sound deadeners. Of course, if your floor is getting hot enough to melt asphalt, you have a serious heat problem...mine gets hot, but NOTHING like that...

I agree, Fatmat is okay on the floor up there but due to it's thin nature you may want to double up on the toe boards.

Also, a heat shield would be a good idea on top of the sound deadener on the floors.

I don't know how hot it gets. I'm sure no worse than any other Vette, but just wasn't sure if it was OK to use it there. I'm still not sure. So I take it the Fatmat is the cheap asphalt base sound deadener.

FatMat at least used to be asphalt-based:

It still is but they did plenty of heat tests and found there to be minimal smell and adhesion problems due to heat. It's just the thinest and cheapest sound deadener available outside of places like Home Depot and Lowes and they really don't seem to carry much in the way of those products anyway.
