I did a thorough cleaning on my vette today and was shocked to notice a crack in my fairly new top . The crack is right where this guy has glued on the front round cylinder hold down that you screw the stud into through your windshield post .
Has anyone else had this happen to them ?
It actually kind of pisses me off cause I have only driven the car 3 times since I bought this from them .
Never happened to mine but I stopped using mine after 5 years when all the weatherstripping fell off...no cracks but it sure scratched easy.
I cant imagine that you were able to over tighten it - I suppose if there was way too much flex in the car it might be possible - or some rather extreme temperature variations.. no idea.
Good luck and let us know how Thompson treats you.

wish i read this thread before I paid out $600. for my tops. no cracks yet but i see scratchs already. I guess you get what you paid for that's why they are 1/2 the price of glass. let us know if they fix them and how hard it was to deal w/them. thanks
I have no direct experience with them but if you check the C4 and C5 forum - the going opinion is to stay away, stay far away from them. There are better places out there that sell T-Tops with the original GM frame and glass or a newer stronger material.
Is it against forum policy to send the link to a vendor that may not be a sponsor? If so PM for a coupld of places

Overtighten ? nawwwww ... not with my weak and bad hands . From day one , the weatherstrip never fit correctly or even well but I did notice that in every place that one of these hold downs were glued onto the top ... the top had sunk in places out on the outer shell . If they wont hold up in temperatures , what good are they because they sure as hell dont seal very well at all . Its not but right at a year old , I sure hope Thompson will stand behind it !
i've had mine for 15yrs n it's in xcellent condition, guess i was one of the lucky ones. u should be able to send it back n get another one i would think.

I'm not familiar with their replacement T-Tops, but I have the Thompson 1 piece roof (the one that goes over the T bar) on my 81. It looks nice and hasn't cracked yet, but I don't think I would buy another one on any car I was going to drive on the interstate. When you're traveling at a high speed wind gets under it and the center of the top wants to lift up. Lots of noise, and if it was raining lots of water. A glass top wouldn't bow like that.
I had a set of Astro Tops on a 70 that I owned and they were junk(scratched easy and didn't fit). I had a 72 that I put Moon Roofs on and they fit and latched like the original tops. I liked that the border around the glass was painted body color. Do they still make the Moon Roofs?
Heres the disaster ! And No , the guy wont do anything about it . Not only is it cracking , all the weatherstrip is coming loose because the glue deteriated .
Absolutely NO more business with that guy or his cheezy tops !

Nope. But you can still find them on ebay and such. Be prepared to pay a bunch for a pristine set.
My buddy has a rough set for $ 200.00
I have a set on my wagon and love them.
Real Glass with fiberglass surrounds. No problems, wish they were still made.
