Some like it some hate it.
Me i think it looks cheap and nasty, but thats just my opinion.
Also with that stuff on your hoses you cant see if you have a problem with them, untill they burst.
Thats a way Bubba addon POS. Svae some pennies and do it right or don't do it at all. Doing it right is expensive, couple hundred to do the whole engine. But you can do it one set at a time, Upper rad hose, then heater hoses, then hydraulic hoses.

Here is the cheapest supplier I have found

they have just about anything you will need to make up the hydraulic hoses for PS, Hydroboost, brakes etc.

Heater Hose:

I got nothing to do with these guys, just examples
So you could do the heater and radiator for about $100
I built all my own hoses for Hydroboost, tranny cooler, power steering and PCV. Not done yet, but have most of the parts on hand. I have $300 or so tied up in adaptors, hose, hose ends etc..
What are you trying to protect your hoses from? They should already be out of harms way... if not, you've got some other issues at hand that need attention.
but then again... just my .02
