OK, I have traded around and came up with a 77 project car. My son says that he wants the car so it looks like I may have to keep it. I absolutley hate the way the rear section (rubber bumper) looks on these cars. Is there any kind of aftermarket bumper cover out there that resembles the 68-73 rear? I know I can't be the only person with this opinion on this issue. Has anyone else overcame this ugliness?
try this one, it's an eckler's aftermarket bumper, still rubber (actually fiberglass) but (on my modest opinion) of a better design of the stock '77...
The best (and in fact only viable) option is the 80-82 rear bumper with the integrated spoiler, or the slightly different variant of it shown above. Installing a 68-73 rear end on a 77 is major surgery. If you really want the rubber front/chrome rear look, sell the 77 and buy a 73.
Panic,
Thanks for posting the pic and giving me the name of a source to check out. I appreciate you taking the time to do that.
I would like everybody to know that I'm not trying to clone a chrome bumper car with a worthless rubber bumper car. I just figured that there might be a kit or after market panel that would resemble the older rear ends. I went and did a search and found some threads where some poor guy was getting blasted for basically wanting to do the same thing I am asking about. No matter what I do to the car I know it will still be a 77 and I still won't be as cool as the guys that have real chrome bumpers. Everybody just relax; I just want to enhance the looks of my car. I'm in the car at a good price but I don't imagine that I could sell it for the money it would cost to buy a 73 or earlier.
