Default coolant sensor location

Can someone tell me where the coolant temperature sensor is on the 327 engine?

I'm not sure about a 327, by my 350's sensor is located on the driver's side, right above #1 spark plug and under the ram's horn exhaust. Hope this helps.

Going on a year. But just really started getting into the rebuild. I plan to remove the body in the fall. So far this site has proven to be extremely helpfull. With this and the supply houses with all their pictures, etc. I should be able to get answers to just about anything I need. But I am continually disappointed in a lot of the 68 only price tags. But I guess I should just get used to it and be glad I can find what I need.
As I gain experience I am hoping to contribute back to the site by helping others.

Use a small amount of pipe thread sealer, that will make sure it doesn't leak and you won't have to put 80lbs of torq on it. Pipe sealer will NOT interfere with the ground on the sensor

You say true danny?

Ive never used it on any of the dozen or so engines ive built/ wrenched on, but I never heard that pipe sealant was conductive, i may have to file that away for future reference

cheers

Yessir I say true. Think about it, if you put a bit of pipe dope on a threaded gizzy of whatever stripe and install it, then take it out and look at the threads, what do you see? You see bare brass or whatever the thing is made of with pipe dope in the valleys between the threads. Pipe sealer is used to fill the voids between the threads of the two components, the threads being harder by far than the sealant, tape or whatever, it gets displaced into the voids, leaving the two metals very tightly pressed together.
I have seen all the postulations in here saying "Never use any kind of sealer, bla, bla..."
But, if Uncle Sugar and the General do it, so will I

Yess I can see that

BYe the way I havent heard Uncle Sugar used since I was a "Government Issue" stationed overseas

Didnt know GM did it either, live and learn bro, Ill be xperimenting soon as I need to do an intake swap and will be using the port for the sending unit there. The brodix heads i put on had no accomodation for a water temp sending unit, so Ill be able to put this to use soon enough

cheers

I know that gray pipe dope goo well. Use it for natural gas lines in the house. It works just as Sixfooter says, it lays in the valleys and fills the voids but the sharp threads are exposed.

Great info guys thanks!
