My 68 ignition switch doesn't work properly. I had trouble taking it apart because it appears that the threaded bezel that holds the switch onto the dash is smaller than the ignition lock. It only unscrews so far until it hits the ignition lock then I had to cut it to get it off.
Have others had this problem? I ordered all new parts (EXPENSIVE) and think the assembly sequence is that the nut goes on first to hold the switch in place on the dash. Then the lock.
Put key into "accessory" position
Insert and push an opened paper clip in hole in bezel and turn key counter-clockwise while pulling cylinder out.
Then unscrew the bezel nut.

I have just experienced this issue trying to remove '68 ignition switch which seized-up (just before going to car show) And here lies the problem - I can't go through the putting pin in hole and turning key to accessory position as the tumblers appear to have jammed - any suggestions guys.
Well - Iv'e managed to remove the ignition switch - it appears that the barrel assembly is the problem - one of the tiny springs on the lever shutter bar was missing causing the jam - still need to get a new barrel.
