I sure wish I would have kept my original alternator when it went bad in 1976. I'm sure I'll have a hard time trying to find a 1100544 alternator with a build date prior to 1D19.

I was in the same boat a couple of years ago. Looking for an early dated 544. I was told forget about it, your never going to find one.....but I did. I placed an ad in the NCRS Driveline looking for one and I got a call from a real nice guy out in Washington State. He thought he had one with a good date for my car back in his garage.....long story short it had a March date which was perfect for my April build date and it only cost me $50...don't ask what I paid to have it restored .....so don't give up, anything is possible.
