Default Time for brakes

The brake pedal on my '69 BB is getting very soft. It goes to the floor -- stops -- but is not grabbing by any means. Before I get into repairs, what have you done in terms of mild upgrades for rotors and calipers? I'm not loking for the big wheel and tire answers -- just a solution that performs better for a street driving application in a car that might run through the gears from time to time.

Thanks

Before anything I'd find out what the problem is... To me it sounds like you need a brake booster... However, you should probably check if you have a vac. hose that came off or is leaking. Double check to make sure you have fluid and that the lines are leaking.

I figure this would be a good start.

Now as for upgrades, I have a stock caliper with the SS sleeves. I would say that stock system is pretty good, but if ya want more breaking power by all means go for it!

Sounds to me that your Master Cylinder is bad or you have a leaky caliper or brake hose. On both of my Vettes I have stock Rotors using stock organic brake pads with factory SS sleeved calipers. Chances are you may already have calipers that are SS sleeved by now. If that is the case you can rebuild them yourself with caliper seal kits if you are handy. Otherwise you will have to trade them in as cores for freshly rebuilt calipers. You can either go brand new or rebuilt for a Master Cylinder if needed. Open your hood and check the back of it for a leak. If it is wet in the rear of the Master Cylinder its bad.
