My brother had a '73 Corvette and pulled the 454 out of it to rebuild it. The car got repossessed and now we are stuck with the motor. My question is: how much should I sell it for? It has not had any machine work done to it and it is all there. Everything is factory original too. It had never been apart until now.
We are located in Peachtree City, GA if anyone here wants it. I can provide casting numbers and pictures if needed.
It was pulled probably around 7-8 months ago. My brother wanted to make a race motor out of it. It ran good and strong before it was pulled, no smoke or noises of any kind. If memory serves me correctly, it had around 70,000 miles on it. I'm not 100% sure about that but I know it wasn't over 100,000 miles.
It's worth the same as any other used or tore down 454.
It was only original to one car, so its just a used motor. The 73 "454" is not special as far as 454's go.
Sorry.
Terry
It would be worth the most to the guy who ended up with the Corvette (assuming it was the original engine). Is there any way to find out who ended up with the car? I'm sure that's your best bet to sell it for more than the sum of the parts laying there.
I'm not looking to get rich from it. I just have no idea what a 454 would go for. I just want someone to be able to use it. Just a general price range would be great if anyone could help me with that.
I have no idea who got the car. It went to one of those repo auctions so who knows who ended up with it.
Somebody needs to be smacked for having their '73 repo'd. Find out who picked it up at auction for $800 and try to sell them the engine. That could be the person that may want it the most.

Otherwise it's just another old used engine needing a rebuild. Hard to peddle an engine that can't be started so the buyer can hear it run. Anyone that buys it would basically be buying a core.
Try putting it on craig's list if you don't want to pursue finding the new owner of the '73.
Agree,..try to buy the 73 Vette back or at least try to reunite the engine and car. Otherwise I'd try sell the engine locally,..run a newspaper ad or e-bay it with "local pick-up only". The engine should pull from $500 to $1000. 049 heads are desirable, and the four speed cars got a steel crank.

Thank you for the ideas. I'm not sure how I can find the new owner but I guess I will give it a shot. That's what I would like to see happen because a car isn't the same without the original engine. If I had the money, I would have taken over payments on the car but I couldn't afford it.
