Default Valve Cover Question

I have the pair of magnesium valve covers off my engine so that I can clean them up. The driver's side cover had the oil filler cap towards the rear and the PCV valve in the front. The passenger side has the breather hole blanked up! What was the standard breather for an 82, or did it go into the air filter? Can the baffles inside the rocker covers be removed?

Which is the correct orientation to put them back on? Does it really matter so long as the "drippers" are at the highest point?

One last question does anyone know the brand of spark plug lead brackets that are part of the rocker cover hold down tab?

Thanks guys

Is the original black finish paint or powder coat? It sure is a bastard to remove!

U need a breather hole for the PCV (intake vacuum) to pull air through the crankcase and filtered air from "inside" the aircleaner is a good place.
No reason to remove the baffles.
Don't know what u mean by drippers.
Pleny of fancy plug wire hangers on the market.
Don't waste your time trying to polish the magnesium - paint or powder coat - u may need some to remove the old.

Hope this helps,

Yeah, I realise that but I have no idea what the standard setup looks like

I just wanted to pull them so I could make sure I cleaned all the crap out of there before I refit them - all the lumps of paint stripper/paint etc...

The little lumps on the inside top of the valve cover, they help the oil drip back off the covers

Can you be a bit more specific? I'm in Saudi Arabia, my only "market" is the internet. I was hoping someone would chime in with a brand and/or part number

I've nearly got the first valve cover cleaned up. Once they're both finished, I'd like to run a matching pair of after market breather and PCV but I've only found ones that are to suit valve covers with either a 1" or 1 1/4" hole. The holes in the standard valve covers are 7/8".

Before I enlarge the holes to suit, does anyone know of a breather/PCV that suits a 7/8" hole?

It takes some time searching on Summit, but they have them in their own brand and from Billet Specialties, I was looking at them last week.

Did you find any as I am also looking for the 7/8" grommet and PCV along with a breather for the other side!
