Couple of questions - what year is your Vette? Did you get a install wire guide for the new radio?
2nd pick up the phone or look online for Crutchfield's - get there radio wire harness adaptor so you don't go cutting up your original factory harness to plug your new radio in.
3rd do what SIXFOOTER said and look in the shop manual on how to unistall a radio - shows you were all those nice little screws are located so you can remove your gage console without breaking it.

To answer questions:1975 coupe, was rewired professionally four years ago by previous owner.Shop manual is on the way, but was hoping someone had a shortcut/ don't do this because, etc. I'm more of a drivetrain guy and the last time I did a radio change-out was in a 1984 Blazer which was new at the time. Just trying to be pro-active.
Ahh, ok. Here are a few points:
It is easier to do from the pass side
Pulling the seat helps
You have to remove the center console side panel
You have to remove the mount screws in the center dash, there are 2 at the top, two on the sides and 2 underneith that go thru the canter console panel and into the center dash panel. Be carefull, the tabs are easy to break off
you will need to use a deep socket or long needle nose to get the nuts off the control shafts
I highly recommend getting the Vette wire harness adaptor for the new stereo if the harness has not already been butchered.
There will be (should be) a ground strap/Mount strap on the back of the radio, the other end should be attached to somewhere on the floor or a mount tab for the side panel
That should about get it out
Putting the new one in is basically the reverse
As you can see its nothing difficult
DO you have a new one yet? If so what did you get?
I JUST installed a new Pioneer head unit in mine this past weekend. It had a non-original AM/FM cassette player, and luckily for me, I had the installation manual for that radio that the previous owner put in. If you can, find out from the old manual what the wires go to, like if there's a green wire coming out of the stereo and it's connected to an orange wire in the harness, see what the green wire goes to in the old manual, let's say the left front speaker positive line, and label the orange wire it's connected to as left fron speaker positive. It'll help big time.
Of course, that's if you don't have a shop manual.
