Default Sway bar question

1980 Vette. Can I drop the sway bar down about a 1/2 inch without messing up the handling? The lower radiator hose neck is too close the the sway bar and I think it cracked the weld of the neck. The Vette was hit and frame was straitened but things inside are still a bit off. I can't replace the frame at this time. The thing drives very good and no uneven tire wear. Just want to drive it without messing up the radiator again. Any thoughts?

Yes dropping the sway bar is a common practice. It's a good way to get the clearance you need.

You shouldn't need to drop it that much. Are you using polyurethane bushings? Rubber deflects, especially if it's old. You might have the clearance you need anyway, but run into problems when the bar moves around.

You might want to check that the radiator is not dropping due to a bad core support.

Bottom shelf on the core support might be bent and you may be able to shim the radiator Up a bit to get it to clear. Batman is correct too, urethane bushings might get you in the clear

The support is good. Urethane bushings might help. And your right...I really need only about a 1/4 inch drop. Thanks for all the help.

I am w/ those who suggest resolving the issue. Maybe the rad. can be raised.
This should answer your sway (stabilizer) bar question. If lowered you would also lower the end link at top. See bottom of:

It depends on the radiator. My Northern generic is most likely going to require a slight sway bar drop to clear the lower neck - especially since I just acquired a Gymkahna bar...
