What's the most powerful engine that I can just drop into a 71 without making any modifications to the car? It has a small block crate engine in there now and I have no idea how many horses it put out. Thanks.

Put a 500+ hp one in there, when something breaks you will know what you need to modify! Should be able to handle 400 no problem based on my very meager knowledge of vettes.

Agree,..400-450 with street tires should hold up.

Well, I meant which engine (ZZ4, LS7, etc.) that I can just drop into the car without making any modification to the frame or cutting a hole in the hood. I know I may have to upgrade some other components in the car. Thanks.

If you car is a small block, the ZZ4 will drop right in with no modifications. An LS7 will not.

You can put any of the smallblock Chevy engines in without frame modifications. LS engines require a lot more work in the areas of wiring and fuel system.
