Is the door supposed to be open when vacuum is applied or closed? I have the assembly out to rebuild and clean but I am confused about how it should operate. Any explanations would be appreciated.
The plenum door should be closed when vacuum is applied to it. It shares the same vacuum hose as the kick panel door. Actually the hose for the plenum T's into the kick panel door vacuum hose right behind the grommet on the firewall behind the distributor.
The doors work opposite of each other, when vacuum goes through that circuit, it opens one and closes the other. I actually hooked a vacuum hose directly to the plenum from the engine therefore it stays closed all the time. When I had it hooked up in stock form sharing the circuit with the kick panel door, there was not enough vacuum to run both of them for some reason.
