way to remove an old spare tire lock. the p.o. did not give me the key and has since moved away. can i drill it? use a sawzall? electric cut off wheel (makes alot of sparks thou) or just let my mech remove it?
Just remove the 2 9/16 bolts that hold it to the frame-watch -the spare will drop. You can put it up on the anvil and smash it with a hammer. Its some kind of cheap metal.I think I was able once to get inside the slot and get it off also.
Take the two bolts on either side of the lock the drop the spare .Then take the two bolts out of the tire holder drop the piece with the lock, take that to A lock Guy He will Make A key for you It just might need oiled or 710 ed which everone might work but to smash and cut, Buuuub you finish.

But I cut it with a die grinder instead of hitting with a hammer. Then get a new lock from Paragon or similar.
If all is original, like zora said - Door lock key. If the door lock key doesn't work, remove as DWncchs said, take it to a lock shop and have a key made. If you go the smash route, spare tire locks appear frequently on ebay.
Hi you can depress the lock plunger with a stiff wire through the hole in the lock, working around the hanger rod. I used a bent stiffener from a wiper blade but a bicycle spoke or something like that works ok too.
Takes just a few seconds...these pictures will help!
