Default Speedometer Replacements

Does anyone make a "factory-looking" replacement speedometer for the later C3's that goes higher than 85 Mph?

By "factory-looking" I mean with the cross-flags and everything, that exactly matches the look of the factory speedometer and looks like it's always meant to have been there, but just goes higher than 85 Mph?

I know Ecklers has a service where you send them yours and they "upgrade it" to a 165 Mph speedo, but I would prefer to just buy one and keep my original as is.

You don't want to just buy a used 140 mph speedo off someone? That seems like the easiest way to me.

If someone has one, sure, but I want it to match the 1980 Speedo & tach. I think the first link posted will do what I need, they have some for sale there, just gotta call them and find out if it's OK if there is no core to return.

Default Speedometer Replacement

Can anyone direct me to a step by step tutorial or site where I can get information regarding the removal of a speedometer from an '81 vette?

Does the steering column need to be dropped from the dash?

Is it just a drop in replacement? Mine is an early-year 80 (short vin) so I would imagine a 79 would just go right in, right?

just drops in, runs off the stock cable

dropping steering column a little would help with gauge cluster removal but isnt required.

i found the thing that almost is required to be removed is the drivers seat so you can lay on your back to work up behind the dash disconnecting the gauge cluster before removal. seat comes out with 4 nuts.....trust me, you'll thank me later.
