Default Air Conditioning-Need Help

I have a 1971 SB with factory air. My recently developed problem is that the A/C stays on Max in all positions (that is OFF, MAX, NORM, and BI-LEVEL), the compressor only stops truning in VENT, HEATER, and DE-ICE. I took the shift plate off and the vacuum tubing connection to the switch appears to be in good condition. I'm clueless as to where to look to locate the problem. Can anyone tell me how to trouble shoot or otherwise point me in the right direction to fix this problem. Thanks, John

did you check the side contacts which are controlled by the sliding wheel? theres one contact that should disconnect the a/c power when in off position, maybe its stuck short.

Isn't there a pressure switch under the hood that cyclles the compressor?

Thank you! It was the side switch as you described. It seems to be working now after I played with it a bit.
