Default Engine harness connection on 73?

I started tracing the electrical harness under the hood in preparation for replacement. It's a real mess. One thing that scares me is that I can't find a connector at the firewall.

On a 73, is there a connector plug on the firewall? If so, where is it?

I found a number of wires going through the firewall where there should be a plug of some kind and there appears to be a bundle of wires under the wiper motor, but I'm starting to think that the car has been rewired and that I'm going to find the same thing under the dash with no plug between them.

Worse yet, that's where I thought it was supposed to be. It isn't.

Incidentally, I haven't booked Anchor Steam yet. My schedule keeps changing.

Can you see the connector from under the car, looking up at the booster?

We'll do the brewery tour later, let's get you car going first

I may need a brewery first.

I wasn't able to spend much time this weekend trying to work on the electrical. Got no where yesterday and only spent a few minutes today. The wiring is just so messy that i keep thinking it'll be easier to just replace it that to decode it. Problem is, I don't wnat this to become a "while I'm at it" project. An engine harness is only a few hours work and will put me ahead in the long run. If I have to redo the dash harness to do the engine harness, then I might just patch it and leave it for a winter project.

Dash wiring definitely falls into the "winter project" catagory

The engine harness is most likely original, damaged from heat, Bubba, etc. if you have doubts about repairing it, just replace it. Ask how I know

Do you have the '73 AIM? AIM shows the factory mounting. Engine harness and forward lamp harness should plug together. These two, in turn, plug in the the firewall connection and are held in place with a bolt. Dash harness and fuse block are on the other side of this connection inside the car.

The harness connector/block is easily viewed and accesable from under the car. The block holds both the engine/electrical and the front/alternator harnessses an its held in place by a 10mm? bolt that doesnt not come off. The bolts part of the harness/block. As you loosen the bolt the harness/block will pull away from the firewall. It helps to loosen the bolt then pull out on the harness then repeat. Once removed from the firewall the front hraness will slide off the block from the side.
