Hi guys,
I have a sweet 74 stingray , that dosent have factory airconditioning. As you know its gets pretty warm during our cruises.
Has anyone installed an airconditioning unit? Can you recomend an afternmarket supplier?
Any suggestion would help
I'm looking to do this over the winter
Thanks for the link. That pricing looks to be really good. The other places Ive seen were all in the $ 1200 range.
Sonny,
The Hot Rod Air is also in the $1200 range shipped. If you're looking at the Home Page on thier site, that $835 - $875 is their universal kit which is not what you want.
I'm in the process of installing the Hot Rod Air kit. You just need a center vent from an AC car and your install will look totally stock.
I thought that number looked to good to be true.Hey, if it ends up to be $ 1200 , thats not to bad.
Are you taking pics of your install? If so please send me someif you can aromer@documentconcepts.com.
I am taking pics. Th eproblem is that when you get all the stuff out of the way to do the A/C, there is a ton of other projects that pop up.
My A/C install was the starting point for a complete makeover. I got new seats, carpet, stereo, and on and on and on.
I have the old OEM heater and ducts removed, dash out and have installed the Hot Rod Air cover plates, compressor brackets and compressor. You have an option to use your OEM thumb wheel for the controls (good idea to keep stock set up) and I have that all wired up. Will take some more pics this weekend and send you in progress shots.
sounds like you have your hands full. I agree that keeping it looking stock is the way to go. We only have about one more month of hot weather, then the fall hits, and the temps drop to high 60's low 70's. I hope to get into this in the winter.
Having my Vintage Air system installed today on my 74 non A/c. Paying for an expert to do it thought. This guy has done hundreds of custom cars. $1,200.00 for the kit and $800.00 for the Labor.
I may tackle this myself. It doesnt seem to be that involved. I live out hear on the east coast, so when winter hits, i will be looking for a project to keep me busy.
I have a 76 AC car and am installing the Vintage Air system. They really did not have the system designed for a 76 (or a 75 for that matter) and I have had several issues,BUT, Vintage Air has worked with me and are still working with me to correct the issues (mainly hard line location and lack of room for ductwork behind the center gauge bezel.
I chose them because their system is electronic, no cables or vacuum to hassle with.
I plan to do a write up w/ pics once I'm done.
And it's true, once you tear into things you just keep doing more.
Great , pic. Let me know how the install goes. I had a couple britsh roadsters before this stingray and I know exactly what you mean . Sone as one project starts , many moregrow from it
