I was looking at some other replies...If I have ac then I don't have astro ventilation. If I have my ac off but want ventilation then the lever in my center console would open the side doors (buy the kick/speaker panel) via vacuum instead of a mechanical lever in the center console. It's starting to make sense. So, wouldn't this be like the 69 design?

My post ( are you sure ) was not to you I have a 74 with astro vent written on the windows but I have factory air and the venting is only on the passinger side but is channeled to both sides.
have you removed the kick panels? on mine the drivers side is blank. Everthing air, vent , heater works from the passenger side my manual shows this. but I don't know about yours .
If you have a/c I think it might be the same. If your questings come from heat in the cab then thats another problem.

I have looked in several catalogs and can not find a drawing on duct work........

Passenger side fresh air inlet area. http://www.mustangenthusiasts.net/In...irvent_002.jpg (click on the picture to enlarge)
I took the door out that would swivel allowing air in and out of the car. Also, above is some king of duct with a spung in it. Don't know what that's about.

The air inlet door is still there. Hope these pictures give you a better visual.

yes this is true, AC 68 cars do not have Astro Ventelation. Mine is a very late 68 vin 28277 build date Augest 14th and has the Astro Ventelation on the side windows but no Astro Ventelation as others have said, the vents are blocked off except the one on the right side kick panel.

Very sure
For non-AC cars, there are two ducts on each side of the cowl, upper and lower. Uppers route outside air to the vent ***** in the dash. Lowers route outside air through the kick panel vents by way of the VENT ***** on the console. Sliding the VENT **** on the console manually opens or closes the kick panel vents through a Bowden cable. Some years have a **** on the dash which opens or closes air flow through the dash *****. '68s do not have these.

Upper to dash vent *****. Lower to kick panel door.
AC cars have three of the cowl outlets blocked off. Right side only kick panel door opens and closes with vacuum (no Bowden cable) in conjuction with a flapper door under the right fender at the top; cold air through the dash ***** with AC on; outside air through the kick panel and dash ***** when the system is off of AC and on vent.

Right side AC car. Kick panel vent vacuum operated. Flapper door covers the upper cowl vent.
There is also an Astro-Ventilation vent on the rear bulkhead. Cabin air is supposed to vent out of the car through this exit. On some AC cars, the bulkhead vent is also vacuum operated and is either open or closed depending upon AC or vent.

Note bulkhead Astro-Ventilation vent just above the tape measure to the left of the rear deck vents.

This whole talk was about the system on a 68, and they do not have Astro Ventelation with AC. They also do not use the rear vents either as all they have is a water drain connection on them and no air exit to them at all on AC cars. But I think this subject has been beat to death.
