well we pulled the 350 that came in my dad's 76 couple weeks back and i'm getting the new 350 which is goin into it ready. the old 350 that came with the car was a stock rebuild (according to the previous owner) and although it ran good, didnt have enough power for my dad's taste. the 350 going into the 76 is a .030 over, forged pistons, 262/270 dur. 462/469 lift comp cams. 1.5 roller rockers, completly rebuilt heads, edelbrock performer intake, and edelbrock 600cfm carb. along with a mallory HEI distributor and hooker side pipes we're hoping for 300 horse.
i ordered a centerforce dual friction clutch last week. although for the above combo i know it's a lil overkill. but i'm hoping later on to convince the old man on a nice set of aluminum or iron performance heads so i was thinking ahead.
this passed weekend i cleaned and painted the engine compartment and will be rewiring everything in there this week. i'll post up pics as i get them.
according to the part number of the pistons with the stock heads it's suppost to have 9.7.1 comp. i still have to set up the advance on the mallory distributor and the total timing once the engine is running, and i'll probably play with the carb as well. anything at or above 300 horse i know my dad would more than happy
well busy weekend 2 76's 2 350s both engines dropped. now need to get everything hooked up. Last minute things held us up like the idea of reusing the 30 year old flywheel and clutch bolts to me was absurd so went and got ARP ones. can never be too carefull with those. Also need to order some things. After thinking about it i figured the new stock fuel pump wouldnt cut it with the upgrades on the engine so i'm ordering a 110gph along with new pump to carb lines and filter. Also looking for a aftermarket alternator mounting bracket anyone know if this one would work? http://store.summitracing.com/partde...1&autoview=sku
by the way our L82 project 76 you see on the first pic will be for sale as soon as i get the engine all hooked up and running.
The stock fuel pump will work on your engine, it works on mine. Plus you will have the return line to prevent vapor lock. I had a Holley mech pump on mine for a while. It caused problems at WOT sometimes - the engine would almost die in 2nd gear due to lack of gas flow. Put the stock pump back on, no problem.
What brand hoist is that? The one I have doesn't have that kind of "reach" to install the engine + trans.
the orange one we had to rent from a tool place, the one we own (pep boys unit) didnt even have the reach to put the engine close to in even after we extended the boom by another foot. the front ends of these cars are way long
