Buying something just because it is american made is dumb. I prefer american made stuff if it is of comparable quality and same to a little more money. But if the foreign product is better, then the american companies need to get their act together and build a better product. I have to say, american cars have been increasing in quality over the last few years but the 80's through the mid 90's were not quality years for american cars. Thats why american car companies are in the boat they are in now. My wifes 96 volvo is a fantastic example. It is hands down higher quality then anything american made at the time. The interior and exterior are high quality. Extremly reliable even at 115000 miles and easy to drive. Plus it only makes 5 less horsepower then my 1980 L-82 vette and gets about 20-30mpg depending on how you drive it. Hmmmmmmm......
I have to disagree. I have never seen a *** car even come close to the quality of a chevy! These newer *** cars look nice but wait until you have to repair it, not to mention it will be a rust bucket in about 7 years.
Who do you think owns and builds vovlo?
How can you take the HP ratings for the vette seriously? My 73 L82 is rated at 250 HP but the build sheet calls it an "L82 350 HP ENG". Then you add the overdrive which the volvo has and the vette doen't. Damn these Apples to Oranges comparisons pi$$ me off!
Some would say, "A Vette is a Vette is a Vette", but unless you're already familiar with early C4's you could end up dissappointed. When they first came out, there was a long list of items that kept me from pulling the trigger on one until 1992, that Fisher-Price dashboard not being the least of them.
Now, I'm not saying don't do it. Just make sure you're going into this with your eyes open, and you'll be OK.
I'll give it a good road test and look over...I've seen more dogs in C4's than clean ones...hopefully,this one will be an exception...my big thing for the owner is service records bounced against my judgement of how he cared for it from what I see...
I've got all the service records for the 93 Toyota...and it is in great shape...

I knew that apples to oranges thing was going to get thrown at me. Your're right. Theres also 16 years difference between the two. As far as who makes it, ford didn't own volvo at the time these cars were built. The quality has really gone done since ford bought them. Repair costs are comparable to any newer car whether it be american or import and that is a fact, not something i'm just saying. I have done work to it and had some work done to it as it is an older car and it needed some things replaced because of mileage.
Rust bucket? come on dude, any older american car is just as bad as any import and all the new cars come with decent rust protection. where you live is a big factor too.
all i'm really trying to get at is that import cars are not crap becuase they were not built in america. If everyone bought american cars because they were american regardless of quality, newer cars would be even junkier then the new ones built ten years ago. Newer american cars have really gotten nice due to the compeition of foreign companies. Please don't throw out the "cheap" line regarding foreign stuff either. New Toyotas arn't cheap to buy, nor are they built cheap. anyways, got to go.
didn't mean to jack your thread Rich, throw some pics up when you get that sucker.
No problem....
I've been cramming on this 85...even called friend who has one..also have read most GM service bulletins.....if this vette has not been abused,I'm going for it....
I'll post pics either way Sunday evening....

Thanks for the best laugh I've had all week. That doesn't say 350 horsepower, it says 350ci High Performance.
since you rarely drive the wagon do it. it is another corvette I was never a big fan of C4's until I bought one. I know it is not a C3 but it is still fun to drive
