Thanks to all that replied to my last post. I guess I wasn't specific enough. I'm asking about the rear exterior trim on my 79. It used to be flat black and I've managed to rub off all of the black down to the chrome.
Can it be painted or do I need to replace it. If I can paint it, what paint to use?
I have a photo of it but I can't figure out how to paste it in this post.

Good luck finding the molding. To my knowledge no one makes it new

I knew what you were talking about
I also made a suggestion to do a search on this subject too, you would get a quicker answer on what you wanted to know.
There is countless of usable information in the CF database, we just need to start using it.
Here, I pulled a few for you..........

You can go to O'reilly's or Autozone and purchase a can of Duplicolor "Trim Black" paint.......it's a low gloss paint that goes on pretty good and wears well......Good Luck

Exact same stuff I used to refinish my rear trim

Make sure you paint the trim when the weather cools down a bit.....It's on average of 100 degres with a 109 heat index where I live. If I tried to paint something it'll haze up and lay "gritty".
I'd give it another month or so

I invested in several cans of Krylon Semi Flat black. I got it at Wal Mart (as much as I depise going there, it's the only place around me that carries it). I painted the window trim on the front and back window, and also the rocker moldings as well as a lot of other stuff. If you choose to paint it rather than leaving it bare, I'd scuff it up with some very fine sandpaper for adhedsion.
