Default 'Other' rear view mirror

Ok all, I have no dome light..... no courtesy lights..... no map lights..... and the current rear speaker box covers the cargo light, which may or may not come on as it sees fit at any one time. And if it does come on, well, what's the point?

I work at night, and I gotta see better than getting in a pitch black car.
To date, I've had a maglight hanging from one of those sunglasses holder clips on the visor. Mighty classy huh?

Yesterday I put those little 3 LED strips under the ends of the dash where the courtesy lights should have been. Not too shabby. I may put the slightly longer ones down there, dunno. This was more like proof of concept.

Today came in the 3 foot long 45 LED strip that will mount behind the molding under the back window. Well, once I nail down the cargo light's little issues, it will be powering it.

Map lights! Don't got 'em. Want 'em.
I'm going with a rear view mirror with map lights. And since the car is so low and the adjustment on this mirror is only half assed for glare; autodimming. Compass would be nice too tho there is one on the radar detector......

And yes, I have excellent night vision but not at midnight on the floorboards of a black car.
And no, I'm not afraid of the dark.
Tho Advance Auto did have this flashlight the box claimed was 17.5MCP. Don't know about that but the lens is about afoot across....

I installed a rear view mirror from a late model Pontiac Sunfire. It cost me $9 + shipping on Ebay, has two map lights, and fits the stock windshield bracket just fine.

I pulled the T-top trim down, piggy backed the orange and white wires and ran them up to the windshield.

Make sure you get the pigtail with the mirror. I cut a small notch in the front of that T-top trim for the wire to go under and hide and all that's left is the small length from the pigtail plug to the mirror and it looks fine.

You'll run into problems with the mirrors with a compass or thermometer as you will have to mount the sensors for those functions and that gets complicated.

I believe the compass function is internal. Not really interested in the thermometer, I'd leave that disconnected/disabled. If it's hot out it'll sure as hell be hotter in the car! I do like the thought of using the stock mounting tho. I was afraid I would have to do a windshield mount for any replacement. Thanks!
