A good Saturday to all- I hope you're successfully turning the wrench if not out smoking the tires before admiring eyes. Today's issue: A non-resetting Trip Odometer. The odometer itself is functioning and tallying mileage but doesn't reset upon depressing the ****. The casing surrounding the **** is split so should be replaced anyway. This is such the minor matter but you know how we can be- my eyes keep returning to that damn thing. I have not had the privilege of tearing into the instrument panel and wanted to check-in with those Mechano-Savants on our Forum. Maybe someone is aware of a cure that involves twisting the **** and chanting while drinking a beer...or maybe something more involved. I'm assuming the reset simply engages the odometer gearing. Any suggestions?
There is a little brass gear in there that when you push up the trip reset **** meshes with it and turns it back. I have seen those gears slip, ergo, no reset. a pretty straightforward fix once you get into it
Thanks Sheriff,
Have you dug behind the instrumentation yourself? Is that arduous or am I just a few screws away from encountering said brass gear?
PS I have a '66 as well- 327/300 maroon/black int.

No...it has to come out and taken apart. Not undoable but tedious and frustrating. Check my profile...it's what i do.
Glanced at the profile earlier- how I knew about the '66 and your Sheriff-dom. The difficulty factor is precisely why I inquired about this little stupid obsession. If I get extremely curious I might be inclined to investigate the dark recesses of the instrument mysteries...pointers?
With a lot of luck, The end of the trip odometer reset cable may just have worked loose a bit from the back of the housing and is not making good connection. Make sure it's in there tight. (usually these older cars, we don't get so lucky, but check that first.
