Getting all my suspension stuff ready for powdercoat. I've decided to go for the all black look, but am still debating what kind of black. The powdercoater I have chosen has a gloss black and a black which is sandblasting textured (basically a dull finish on the blasted surface). I took both samples and smacked them with a hammer, both held up very well. The sandblasting textured black cant really be dulled like the gloss black can. I'm leaning towards the sandblasted texture of black, but I am worried that it will hold more dirt after driving. Any comments on which one I should go with and why?
But I found that the gloss sample dulled really easy from just handling it out in the garage, so I am sort of stuck on which one to go with. What's the point in getting gloss black if it is just going to get all dulled up and look like bad?
If you want to keep it clean I would recommend the gloss for the reason you stated.
It'll look and stay much cleaner. If your really concerned about keeping the shine, then the sandblast texture wont help either, cause its gonna collect dust, dirt n worse My 2 cents.
I powder coated all my front end suspension components with gloss black and they look great. If I touch them or spill something on them ect, they look grubby but they don't actually "dull". A quick wipe over with a rag and they look fantastic again.
With either gloss or matt finish, if you're going to drive your car then it's going to look dirty. But IMO, gloss will be easier to clean up.
Theres another black out there called "Fence Black" its between the flat and gloss...I've done my front and rear suspension with this color and it looks great on my showcar. You should ask the powercoating place that you are taking your car to should also have some spray touchup product that you can use. Good luck and you will love the durability of powercoating....
Stinger - I just did my front susspension Chrome & Gloss Black. Any color you use will get dirty but the gloss wipes clean with a dry rag. Sure - it'll dull when it gets dirty but flat black will always be dull!
I just got the drivers side on yesterday & can take a couple pix if you give me your email address.
bump...The jet black is like a regular gloss. Which one should I go with? The powdercoater said that mirror black shows every flaw in the metal, so he recommended I go with jet black.
You should powdercoat suspension parts semi-gloss unless your building a show car.Theres a color called BK05 made by cardinal that works real well.Done a lot of frames and suspension with this color.
