Do you mean the entire car, or just the body? I'm guessing the fiberglass body only weighs a few hundred pounds. The dolly design folks use to store it during a frame-off really doesn't look sturdy enough to support 3,500 pounds.
well i was wondering if my celing rafters will support the weight when i lift the body from the frame???????????
I wouldn't use the rafters, just in case.
I built a gantry out of some 4x4's and it wasn't a problems total cost in wood and lag screws was like $40 or so. The width I used for the cross beam on my gantry was 6feet. Worked very well. But I would suggest a hoist or winch as opposed to a come-along like I used, that made things a little difficult when I was lowering the body.
It also depends on if the body has been stripped, interior, wiring, glass, doors etc., etc.,
I would guess that my 68 body weighs in the neighborhood of 300 to 400 pounds, I can easily lift one side by myself.
yea I removed doors, glass, hood, t-tops, all interior. Thanks for yuor responses it just gives my a little more nerve and assurance which i need cause I want to be as careful as I can so I can eliminate as many problems as I can cause Murphys law is always in play. thanks alot guys heres to ya
