ive installed my door panels, and they look great, but i cant get any of the "vlecrow" pices to hold together, like its bowed and the screws are holding the bottom out bc its arched, how do i get arround this?

I used a dot of super glue on the plastic velcro pieces when I clamped them together and held them for a second.

When all of them have a dot of super glue and are clamped they will hold.

If you ever need to take the panels off you just get under the door and tap a thin screw driver between them and the glue pops loose and the velcro is reusable.

On my 72 there are two factory tabs that screw into the door and the panels. Do you have them and are they installed?

 

I've also read several threads where a hair dryer was used to help mold & shape the panel to fit better. Don't use a heat gun or it will melt the vinyl.

 

I made a metal bracket and used sheet metal screws from the bottom side to do the lower end by your feet. I had new velcro and it wouldn't stay.

 

I took wire (a long piece of thin multi strand, like used for picutures) and intalled by feeding first behind the velcro pieces between each and their connecting part, then such that the loose ends were accessible and then with a pair of needle nose pliers twisted these such that the velcrow held together, has worked great!

my old ones didnt hav them, dad told me that it would (also a 72 owner) but my 74 didnt hav them

The tabs were stock on almost all years of door panels, but they fall out very easily. The way you can tell if your car ever had them is to look for the screw hole in the door shell.

They do help a lot but I have not ever had the velcro stick even when those tabs were securely screwed down. Just a bad design idea from GM.

I think they did away with that kind of fastener in '78.
