Default Engine I.D.

Trying to determine year of the engine in my 76 L-48. These numbers are on engine pass. side near water pump. V0918CK081 and 165405081 Right numbers and location? Help!

09 = September
18 = 18th Day
CKO ??? CK0 ??? maybe CKC - L82 210HP auto
(L48 - CKW or CKX)
81 ????
165405081 should be 16S405081
1 - Chevy
6 - year 1976
S - Vehicle assembly plant: St. Louis, Missouri
405081 - end of Vin# if it mach #'s

You are right. S/B 16S405081. CKX is correct on my block, L48. Any advice on changing over to a more modern transmission? 3 spd doesnt cut it. Thanks for your help.

There should be no 81 on the end of this stamp. V0918CKX is what you should find.
