Default Hooker or Hedman headers?

I found these two different headers in an Ecklers catalogue and their prices are a good grand different. The hookers (lol) are 1300 and the hedmans are 350 or so. I read both descriptions multiple times and found now visual difference...is there a difference and im just not seeing it?

And while im talking about side pipes, i heard that it was illegal in California to own them....is this true? I will cry if it is

Don't go through a middle man like eklers. Try jegs, summit. or jet hot for a really nice set.

Without looking I would guess there's a coating difference. Hooker headers are certainly more popular, but I think Hedman's are nice as well. Basically the coating is the only thing that should make THAT big of a difference if the header's look dimensionally similar.

I agree with the other response, Summit or Jegs is a better way to go on stuff like this.

the hookers have the pipes all the way out.. the hedmans are just headers..at least if your talking sidepipes.

Nothin illegal about sidepipes in California...unless your putting them on an emissions controlled car like a 78 or something. in which case its just an issue of passing smog.

Default Hedders

They are both good,I have used both of them over the years and I tend to go with the Hedmans they are priced right and get the coated ones.I bought my 79,L 82 4 speed new and the very first mod I did was to install the ceramic coated hedders and a true dual exhaust system on my car.The Hedmans are still on the car and have kept well up all these years, mine are of the long tube design. It is all about what you want to spend.Later Geno

Go with Hedman's, they're the best bang for the buck and a product of equal quality.

It really dont make a difference. On a warm summer night you can hear either one rusting away. A set of Hooker super comps developeded holes all through the tubes and they had only a few miles . I think they all use the thinnest of material .to cut costs and we like dummies buy the crap. .......

I bought headman hedders from jet hot with their coating. It has stayed as bright as the day I put them on (nearly 3 yrs).

I once had a timing light wire melt on #1 pipe and was thinking about how the hell I was going to get it off.... by the time I drove home from my mech it must have melted the remains away

Definietly recommend them with the jet hot coating good luck!

I modified a brand new set of hedman headers and a new set of hooker super comps at the same time and there is a big big difference. The hookers use a thicker head flange plus alot heavier tubes.
Cutting through the pipes really showed the hookers are far heavier and better made.
While I use the hedman because of the price the hooker super comps are far studier.
The hedman elites would be the same quality as hooker.

Been running Hedmons on the 69 502(uncoated).Been on the vette since 1999...no issues....but I'm running undercarraige 3" exhaust....

A friend ordered Hookers for his 572 Camaro...it took 3 sets from Hooker to get set that fit his heads...made in Mexico,BTW...

You're looking at Hooker sidepipes and Hedman regular headers. The Hookers are probably polished SS for that price.

I've run both types. My experience is that Hookers are thicker and more of a "race-ready" header, but I have run into the fit issues on their late-model apllications. Heddmans are a great value, and fit well consistently, but are a little lower quality. That said, I've run Super comps on my BOSS 302 for ten years with no issues (after an initial repaint - original is c**p!), and the same with the Heddmans on an old '64 GTO I had.
