I am having trouble with the wipers in my '68. <big shock, eh?>
I yanked out the motor as there just isn't enough room in there for me, and I found this thread that had a nice way to bench test it. I am about to do that, but I wanted these pics up so people could see what I was looking at that looks wrong to me..
I still need to check the ground as well, but when I pulled the unit out I noticed a couple things that looked wrong.
I think the coil is a resistor for the low speed on the motor, so if its broken you'll only have high speed. Someone else will chime in if I'm wrong I'm sure. The second pic is for the washer pump. 12v across those terminals will activate a solonoid that engages the pump mechanism with the wiper motor gear for a few cycles. It sounds kinds complicated, but it will make sense if you open it up. you should hear a click at least if you bench test it without the motor running.
no, there are 2 wires that go to them that should come out of the same harness that feeds the motor. one is yellow, the other i think is blue, but it's been a while since I was in there. they have round metal ends that won't fit anywhere else, unless of course someone just cut them out for whatever reason.
The two wires you mention were indeed cut, both were spliced into red wires, and left hanging around the bulkhead area. 12v did indeed make that part click when the part lifted up.
